The very nature of WGSX has at its heart critical thinking and analysis skills. The interdisciplinary nature of the program means that students gain experience in written and oral expression and learn to conduct research in various disciplinary traditions for diverse audiences and for diverse purposes. A WGSX education offers not just an understanding of gender and sexuality, but provides students with a framework to think about the world and the systems of power within it.
A recent survey of WGSX alumni suggest that the skills learned in the WGSX program fill a need in the workplace:
- 71% of alumni indicate that WGSX was important in shaping what they pursued after graduation
- Of those 80% of WGSX alumni who pursued advanced study, half pursued study in a WGSX related field.
- Of those employed, 57.8% had employment experiences directly linked with WGSX.
- 97.8% said the skills and knowledge gained in WGSX was very valuable in their post-graduate endeavors.
