Our electronic waste (also known as e-waste)is composed of tech items like computers, cords/cables, batteries, chargers, ink cartridges, and more that is broken or no longer usable. Instead of throwing these items away, they can be recycled! Many of these products are rich in metals that can be extracted for new use.
Where does e-waste go from St. Mary’s?
Out IT department collects e-waste and calls up a local company, SMARTCO. This company specializes in repairing and salvaging electronics. Whatever they can fix is donated to schools, and then the scrap materials are sold for money. Check out SMARTCO’s Website here!
DONATE YOUR E-WASTE
Faculty Students and staff can also donate their e-waste! There are donation bins located all across campus. They are picked up regularly by staff from the Office of Sustainability and the FreeStore. To arrange a pickup contact sustainability@smcm.edu.
