The mission of the SMCM Boat Foundation is to support the sailing program of St. Mary's College of Maryland and to provide the resources to further education and training on the water.

Meet the Staff

Ken Bryan ’74 created a car show in St. Augustine, Florida, to benefit the Joseph Avram Bryan Scholarship, which he established in 2021 in memory of his son. Here Ken’s brother, Ben Bryan ’78, and granddaughter, Angeliya Bryan, present a check for the scholarship fund on October 3, 2023.
Tessa Gibson-Thoele ’26 of Cumberland, Maryland, is the 2023-24 recipient of the Donna L. Smawley West Scholarship. “I was attracted to St. Mary’s College because of its focus on hands-on and collaborative learning. As an environmental studies major, with minors in biology and educational studies, the location on the St. Mary’s River cannot be beat.”
Having majored in psychology, Kelsey Kluh ’23 of LaPlata, Maryland, is the 2023-24 recipient of the Dallas P. Dean Master of Arts in Teaching Scholarship. “As I am financially responsible for all of my schooling, I am deeply grateful for the scholarship and the opportunity to learn and grow in order to become the best teacher I can be for my future students.”
