You are receiving this crime warning as part of St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s commitment to providing campus related crime information, in compliance with the federal Clery Act (Jeanne Clery disclosure of campus security policy and campus crime statistics act).
An incident of Arson was reported to Public Safety on March 25, 2016 at 1:59 am. The Arson occurred at Dorchester Dorm on March 25, 2016 at approximately 1:55 am. An unknown person or persons set fire to a chair in the 3rd floor study room. This is the third incident of this nature in Dorchester Dorm this week. In order to notify the community as quickly as possible of the continuing criminal behavior future notifications will be sent via Blackboard Connect text messaging.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Fire Marshal are actively investigating the crimes.
While nothing is failsafe, here are some suggestions everyone may want to consider.
- If you see anyone or anything suspicious contact Public Safety right away.
- Do not prop open exterior doors or allow building access to unauthorized persons.
- When a building fire alarm sounds please evacuate the building immediately.
