The goal of the psychology major is to enhance your understanding of behavior and mental processes and to examine their connection to other disciplines.
Students have various options to explore interdisciplinary subdisciplines:
- Biological & Sensory Processes
- Culture & Community
- Development & Learning
- Health & Counseling
- Social & Cognitive Processes
Specific objectives concern the understanding of:
- The diverse theories and content of psychology
- Critical thinking and analysis
- Scientific methodology and its application
- Evaluating research designs
- Formulating testable research hypothesis
- Selecting statistical tests & interpreting outpu
The psychology major consists of five components:

- A required core of courses which introduce you to the field and to necessary communication skills within the field, including required methodology courses in research design, analysis, and writing.
- Lower-division courses which provide you with exposure to interdisciplinary disciplines of psychology
- Two upper-division laboratory courses, chosen from a set of fourteeen which represent psychology’s scientific approach to the study of behavior
- An upper-division course chosen from a group of elective offerings
- A senior capstone project
