St. Mary’s fielded its first Ethics Bowl team in 2010, and has participated each fall since then in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Ethics Bowl, along with about fifteen other teams, like Duke, Georgetown, UMBC, UMCP, UNC—Chapel Hill, and University of Richmond.
Further, in 3 of the past 4 years–including this year–we have qualified for the Nationals, held in such places as Jacksonville and San Antonio. In 2016, we placed 23rd–that’s out of the 190 teams that started the season.
More to the point, the team of five students and one coach has a fun time doing the hard work of meeting at 8:00 a.m. twice or thrice a week to talk through the fifteen cases that are published early in the semester by the sponsoring organization, the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.
It’s a great experience in a close setting. (Kinda like four years at St. Mary’s!)
