The Zeta Chapter may choose to elect as honorary members current or retired faculty members.

The criteria are as follows:

  • The faculty member is a full professor by rank in good standing or has retired with emeritus status
  • The faculty member demonstrates an impressive and career-long scholarship record
  • The faculty member demonstrates commitment to the intellectual life of the College including the intellectual growth of students.

Any faculty member at SMCM may nominate a professor that they think meets the criteria by submitting a letter of recommendation with the candidate’s CV via the nomination form by Oct. 15 for consideration in that year. The committee will review the nominations and make recommendations for a vote by the resident members at the annual meeting in February. A nominee must receive a unanimous vote by the quorum of members present at the annual meeting.
