Census Dates

Below are the official census dates for academic year 2024-25 that are used to generate the finalized course and enrollment data for the semester. Personnel data has an annual census date of November 1st.

Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (IPEDS)

IPEDS is the primary tool for the collection of data by the United States Department of Education’s National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES). Details about the organization and other information pertaining to its function can be found in the following links:

Maryland State Agencies

SMCM is responsible for providing institutional data to the following state agencies:

• Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)
  • Office of Policy Analysis and Research
  • 2024-25 Annual Data Collection Schedule
• Maryland Department of Budget and Management (DBM)

MHEC maintains Interactive Data Dashboards that provide a statistical snapshot of post-secondary education in Maryland. Up until 2022, MHEC published an annual Data Book that provided comparative data on post-secondary institutions. These past data books can be accessed on the MHEC Publications page.
