Sustainable tourism is one that respects local people, the traveler, cultural heritage, the environment, and the economy. As a part of St. Mary’s values, we encourage all members of our community to respect others and the environment on a local, national, and global scale, and one of the ways we can achieve this is to be mindful of sustainable tourism practices.

Green Passport Program

The Green Passport Program (GP) aims to “green the field of international education” in the United States by motivating, engaging, and supporting study abroad administrators and students interested in adding a more socially and environmentally conscious dimension to their education abroad experiences. The overarching goal of the program is to foster education, dialogue, advocacy, and action around the issues of environmental sustainability and social justice. GP provides study abroad offices and education abroad programs with resources to “green” their operations and provides students with a variety of tools to lessen their negative impacts while they travel and to learn about sustainability while abroad.
