Lecturer of Marine Science
The Department of Marine Science at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is accepting applications for the three-year renewable position of Lecturer of Marine Science, beginning August 2025. Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree (ABD acceptable at the time of application) in Marine Science or related field and be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Applicants should have a well-rounded academic and professional background in marine science with the ability to teach multiple courses in the Marine Science Curriculum (Introduction to Marine Science, Biological Oceanography, and Physical Oceanography), as well as Marine Science electives in the applicant's area of expertise. The Marine Science major at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is new and rapidly growing, so we are looking for someone who is excited to contribute to our program’s development. We also strongly encourage applications from candidates who can take advantage of our place-based teaching resources, as evidenced by experience operating small boats, leading research cruises, and/or using experimental wet lab systems. Lecturer teaching load is 4 courses per semester, although supervision of senior thesis projects counts toward the teaching load. Scholarly activity that is sufficient to remain current in pedagogy and disciplinary content is expected. A commitment to culturally competent teaching/mentoring and fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments is essential. Salary range: $55,000-$60,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
