Gain a solid foundation in educational theory and practice with an educational studies minor or special education minor. Students work closely with local K-12 schools to gain hands-on, practical experience. In the classroom, students benefit from small class sizes and engaging course topics. With an educational studies or special education minor, students can go on to the SMCM Master of Arts in Teaching program and will be well-prepared for graduate school in other areas including school counseling, school psychology, and social work.
The educational studies minor is for students both who want to go on to their Masters of Arts in Teaching, and for students who want to get the basic foundation in teaching- to learn the basics of the elements of the teaching and learning processes.
It encompasses the prerequisites for the MAT program, while also offering a selection of classes to prepare the interested student for careers outside of teaching in K-12 settings.
