Young At Art 2015 Exhibition: Boyden Gallery is partnering with the Department of Educational Studies at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and St. Mary’s County Schools for an exhibition of work by elementary, middle and high school students. The exhibition will be on display in Boyden Gallery at St. Mary’s College of Maryland from May 11 – May 31, 2015. The exhibition opens with the juror’s talk and awards reception on May 11th at 5pm.
This year, we invite all SMCPS schools and St. Mary’s Ryken HS, to participate in the exhibition. This year’s exhibition builds on the success of last year’s pilot exhibition of student work from Great Mills HS, St. Mary’s Ryken HS, and Spring Ridge MS. This year is the second annual exhibition at Boyden Gallery, and is now open to students in all St. Mary’s County schools. The timing of the exhibition is the same as 2014 to encourage broad participation, with minimal conflict with the school or college calendar, and most students will already have work prepared for AP Studio Art portfolios and/or Youth Art Month, an annual multi-venue exhibit of outstanding artwork from students in St. Mary’s County Public Schools held each March.
Young at Art (YAA) provides a valuable, and much-needed, opportunity for local art students to exhibit their creative work in St. Mary’s County. The exhibition will be juried to offer students real-world experience, feedback and recognition from established arts professionals. YAA has the potential to build stronger relationships between the faculty, staff and students at local schools, St. Mary’s College, their families and our community through a shared celebration of student creativity. This exhibition represents an important expansion in the partnership between arts programs at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and St. Mary’s County schools.
