Academic Offerings

The general educational objective of the chemistry or biochemistry major is the development of a fundamental understanding of the basic principles, concepts, models, and practices employed by chemists in characterizing the structure and behavior of matter.

Upon graduation a chemistry or biochemistry major should:

• Gain a solid foundation in the sciences including the ability to read and critically assess scientific literature, organize, analyze, and present, written and orally, their scientific knowledge.
• Employ critical thinking and creative problem solving to understand the biological and chemical complexities in the processes of life.
• Develop the ability to design experiments and discern the knowledge that can be gained from experimentation, but also understand the limitations of both the scientific method and modern instrumentation.
• Have the skills and confidence necessary to take biochemical initiatives from idea to implementation.
