Susan Lawrence Dyer is a lifelong strategist always finding ways to connect people, technology, and opportunities. Her penchant for getting things done has been a hallmark of her personal and work life. She is currently involved in commercial real estate development and is a Managing Partner at Washington & Park LLC operating a successful upscale restaurant in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Susan has more than 30 years of experience as a recognized leader and expert in information technology strategy, design, development and delivery of large-scale business and scientific systems. Her work involved large-scale networks, video technologies, computer modelling, large-scale business systems, and creative uses of personal computing. Her career with the US Navy culminated in ten years as a member of the Senior Executive Service. She served in many positions leveraging her Computer Science and Mathematics background including Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Naval Air Systems Command and the Navy’s Technical Director of Navy Enterprise Resource Planning where she led a 600-person team of engineers, technologists, and business professionals to deliver a Navy-wide integrated financial, logistics, supply, human resources, and project management system.
Susan has received a number of awards including the 2008 Government Computer News Technology Leadership Award and the 2009 Women in Technology Leadership Award. She was featured in the book titled, “No One Path: Perspectives on Leadership from a Decade of Women in Technology Award Winners.” Her accomplishments with the military earned her the Department of Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award, two Department of Navy Superior Civilian Service Awards, two Department of Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Awards and designation as an Honorary Supply Corp Flag Officer.
Her Board commitments include serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees for St. Mary’s College of Maryland, The National Public Honors College and as Vice President and Committee Chair for the St. Mary’s County Historical Society which collects, preserves, researches, and interprets the history of St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
Susan was born in Leonardtown, Maryland and is thrilled to be living there again. Her passion for celebrating and sharing all that Southern Maryland has to offer keeps her active in the Community. She and her husband, Vice Admiral (Retired) Joseph W. Dyer, reside in Leonardtown, Maryland.
