The Asian Studies Major

How can a liberal arts curriculum benefit your exploration in Asian studies?

It’s simple. True to the liberal arts fashion, our Asian studies program includes coursework from a variety of fields, such as: art history, English, history, international languages, music, philosophy/religious studies, and more! Outside the classroom, Asian studies majors get the opportunity to experience Asian culture hands-on. You can even study abroad in an Asian country! You’ll also work closely with your professors in small class sizes-- something larger universities can’t offer.

The Asian Studies major is designed to give you an in-depth, inter disciplinary approach to the countries that have come to have increasing importance in modern world affairs

Asian Studies is centered around:
An Asian language study
Asian Studies classes
Asian Studies upper-division courses in at least 3 separate disciplines
Study abroad
St. Mary’s Project

All in an effort to gain an understanding of Asian culture, politics, economics, religion and literature, first hand travel experience to an Asian country, and language proficiency in the desired Asian language.
