The Department of Art provides a diverse, collaborative, and integrated curriculum in studio art, art history, and art theory. Our program forcefully models an interdisciplinary liberal arts mission, and department members share a common philosophy that studying the making, analysis, and history of art are inseparable endeavors.
There are many exciting paths you can take as an art student at St. Mary’s College. From figure drawing sessions with life models in the classroom to plein air painting on the scenic St. Mary’s College campus, you’ll find inspiration in the local art galleries, and allow your work to be influenced by diverse cultures and rich histories by traveling the world.
The department’s central goal is to expose students to creative and intellectual activities that will help them become thoughtful producers and consumers of visual media.
