Affiliations with Historic St. Mary’s City and Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum / Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory generate rich opportunities for students to engage in internships, independent studies, laboratory work, and hands-on professional research.
The Archaeology Program
The Anthropology Department offers several opportunities to gain experience in the field. Formal field schools include the Summer Survey Course in southern Maryland, Colonial Maryland NSF-REU, or the Historic St. Mary’s City Field School. Students also gain field experience in ANTH385: Anthropological Research Methods and work with collections in ANTH202: Archaeology Practicum, and ANTH 357: Analysis and Curation.
