Green Living
To be environmentally sustainable, residence use less electricity and water, compost, use green cleaning supplies, buy local food, and buy in bulk.
The Eco House is a living-learning community where students strive to live in an environmentally sustainable way while encouraging others to adopt the same methods. Students who live there participate in clean-ups, and help to organize the climate change educational initiative.
As Joanna Gibson, one EcoHouse resident, describes their aim:
We are dedicated to learning… and we try to be aware of the consequences of our decisions as consumers and as residents of the earth. We also try to share this awareness with the community.

about joining Eco House
*Please note that there is limited space for this program; if interested, apply as soon as possible.
Programming
- One primary goal of the Eco House is to enable you to develop programming of your own- both for your goals and as an intentional learning community and for the broader college community.
- Eco house members bring in speakers, host a film series, and run activities at other college functions.
- All Eco House residents are required to volunteer for 10-15 hours of service, which is tracked in an online database. Many spend those hours at the campus farm, but in other ways as well.
Housing
- Dedicated housing is provided for you based on your specific community creating an environment of bonding, programming, and reflection.
Eligibility
- Eco House has limited capacity but is open to sophomore through senior students. Students residing in Eco House tend to be (but not always) are Environmental Studies majors.
