The Internship

Internships offer a great opportunity to gain experience in a profession as well as “try out” a particular field.  For both future job prospects and admission to graduate school, a good internship can help set you apart from other candidates. This program will work to place students in top internships in Washington across a variety of fields, including:

  • Capitol Hill
  • Federal Government
  • Non-profits
  • Think Tanks

The Class

Before beginning their internship, students will spend an intensive week (May 2014) at St. Mary’s learning about the primary actors in Washington and how to get the most out of their internship.  After completing their internship, students will meet in DC (August 2014) for another intensive week where they will examine their internship experience in light of academic research.

The Alumni Mentor Network

During the internship, students will meet regularly with St. Mary’s alumni mentors.  These mentoring meetings will expose students to the network of St. Mary’s alumni in the Washington area, as well as offering a chance to have fun.  Mentors will help students navigate their internships and share their expertise.
