Work begins in mid-July on a federally funded pedestrian/traffic safety improvement project along state highway Maryland Route 5 in St. Mary’s City.
Travelers should note that construction flag personnel will be controlling flow through the worksite during construction hours, which will run from 9 am – 3 pm weekdays. The project is estimated to be complete in early September.
“An important goal of the project is to provide safe and well-lighted sidewalks and crosswalks, improving safety for both pedestrians and motorists,” said Dan Branigan, St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s associate vice president for planning and facilities. Branigan emphasized that “the project has been in design for several years and numerous public open houses and public meetings have been held to gain community input, assisting in the design of the project.”
