Author Elsa Walsh, 2013 Margaret Brent Lecturer, to Give Talk at St. Mary’s College

Elsa Walsh, author of the book “Divided Lives: the Public and Private Lives of Three American Women,” will give a talk at St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Friday, April 5. “Notes to my Daughter: On Becoming a Woman” will be held in the college’s Auerbach Auditorium of St. Mary’s Hall, starting at 7 p.m.  The talk will be followed by a reception at 8:30 p.m. in the college’s River Center. The talk and reception are free and open to the public.

Walsh, who most recently worked as a staff writer for the New Yorker, is a member of the board of Martha’s Table, an anti-poverty organization, and Mothers Day Every Day, an international organization dedicated to ending maternal mortality.  Walsh is this year’s Margaret Brent Lecturer, a lecture series established in 1981 at St. Mary’s College to honor distinguished public service among women.

The event is being sponsored by the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program and The Center for the Study of Democracy with funding from the Lecture and Fine Arts Committee and the English Department.
