The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Chamber Singers will sing to the rafters in a free public concert in the acoustically-amazing reconstructed brick chapel at Historic St. Mary’s City at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 1. The program features the music of 17^th-century Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi (two madrigals and the sacred composition “Beatus Vir” ), Italian madrigals by American composer Morton Lauritsen, and works by Frank Ticheli, Stephen Paulus, and college alumnus Scott Humberg. Parking will be available adjacent to the chapel.  Look for signs along Route 5. 

Construction of the chapel on the foundation of a 17-century chapel was completed in 2009. The Roman Catholic faith was first practiced in English America on this site. 

 Though the brick chapel was in active use for only about 40 years, from 1667-1704, its legacy of religious freedom remains vitally important.  Visitors are invited to explore the adjacent pavilion prior to the concert and learn more about the history of the chapel and the reconstruction project.
