Pushcart Prize-winning poet Linda Bierds will read from her works at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Daugherty-Palmer Commons at St. Mary’s College of Maryland as part of the VOICES Reading Series. Bierds’ books of poetry include First Hand, The Profile Makers, and The Ghost Trio, which was named a Notable Book Selection by the American Library Association.
Bierds, who has taught English and writing at the University of Washington since 1989, has also received grants and awards from the Seattle Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Poetry Society of America, and the MacArthur Foundation.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
