December 2, 2010
Press Release #10-215

To celebrate the 200th anniversaries of Frédéric Chopin's and Robert Schumann's births, the piano faculty at St. Mary's College of Maryland (Eliza Garth, Brian Ganz, and Beverly Babcock) will host a concert of favorites by these two composers Sunday, December 12, 2010, in Montgomery Hall, Room 25. Part one of the recital will begin at 4 p.m., the second at 7 p.m. after a dinner break. This event, which features student pianists, avocational pianists from the surrounding area, and college faculty, is free and open to the public.

Some of the pieces to be performed: the complete Kinderszenen and excerpts from the Fantasiestucke (Fantasy Pieces), Op. 12 by Schumann, as well as mazurkas, waltzes, preludes, nocturnes, and the rarely heard Rondo No. 1 by Chopin.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
