Bio: Kenneth Cohen is a historian with scholarly interests in Early America (up to the Civil War) and the History of Sport and Entertainment. His research has won recognition from the North American Society for Sport History and the respected political journal National Affairs. His current book project explains how the rise of commercial sport influenced the formation of American democracy, and has warranted invited lectures at The Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Maryland. A graduate of the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture, Ken is also interested in the public presentation of historical research, and has consulted or lectured for numerous cultural organizations across the country, from Smithsonian museums to local advocacy groups, often on projects funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Maryland Heritage Trust. He is a regular source for the Washington Post on issues of public history.
