We Want You!
From time to time, we hire qualified people to teach mathematics and computer science courses as Adjunct Professors. If you would like to be considered for these positions, please send a CV to the chair, Dr. Susan Goldstine (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City invites applications for a new tenure-track assistant professor position in mathematics starting in the fall of 2013, pending budgetary approval. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an area of mathematics at the time of the appointment. A successful applicant will be an outstanding teacher, committed to attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups (including women). Applicants are expected to be able to teach a wide range of undergraduate mathematics courses, and to be dedicated to the liberal arts tradition. The usual teaching load is three courses per semester, with eligibility for pre-tenure course releases. An active research program with opportunities for undergraduate participation is desirable. Applicants specializing in statistics or applied mathematics are particularly encouraged to apply.
Nonsectarian since its founding, St. Mary's College of Maryland, a public Carnegie Baccalaureate, Arts and Sciences institution located in Historic St. Mary's City, 70 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., has been designated as Maryland's public honors college. With highly selective admissions policies, academically talented students, and a rigorous curriculum, we offer a small college experience similar to that found at exceptional private colleges. St. Mary’s faculty benefit from a comprehensive program of support for scholarship, research, travel, and curriculum development, including course releases for pre-tenure faculty and leaves for tenured faculty. The quality of life is enhanced by the recreational opportunities of the Chesapeake region and by our proximity to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.
To apply, please submit a cover letter that specifically addresses the requirements stated in this ad, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of research interests, and three letters of reference via mathjobs.org (preferred) or to Mathematics Search Committee, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, 18952 E. Fisher Rd., St. Mary’s City, Maryland 20686-3001. Applications received by December 1, 2012 will be considered for an interview at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in January.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. St. Mary’s College of Maryland is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
