Student Responsibilities/Benefits:

This fellow will work with the Office of Student Activities to promote intentional learning for students through co-curricular programs and activities that promote leadership development, civic engagement, and campus civility.  Using the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS)’s standard for Leadership Development Programs, resources from Higher Education organizations, scholarly sources (Learning Reconsidered), and applicable student development theory the fellow will design and implement programs and activities that best suit the St. Mary’s community.

For the entire year, the fellow must design and execute two programs in each of the functional areas:  leadership development, civic engagement (on- and off-campus), and campus civility.  The fellow will work with the Assistant Director to set priorities and manage fiscal and office resources effectively.  All programs must be assessed for student learning and program effectiveness.  Programs should provide opportunities for individual and group participation.  Further, many of these programs should be designed to incorporate faculty and staff participation.  Examples of programs that could be developed:  leadership retreats, pay-it-forward programs, weekend leadership conferences, involvement in St. Mary’s County government and non-profits, guest speakers, and etc.

Student Qualifications:

Candidates must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.  Event planning, web and social media, and marketing/publicity experience preferred.  Prior experience in campus leadership positions preferred.  Candidates should have a strong passion and appreciation for community and campus engagement.
