Student Responsibilities/Benefits:

The primary responsibility of the Multicultural Recruitment and Initiatives Fellow will be to assist the campus in the recruitment and counseling of prospective multicultural students.  Whether it is racial, social, or economic, St. Mary’s College represents diversity in all its forms.   We are a campus that “fosters intellectual, social, and ethical development within a community dedicated to diversity and accessibility.”  To further the college’s mission, the fellow will engage in a number of tasks.  These tasks are essential in the recruitment, admission, and matriculation of students from diverse backgrounds.

He/she will serve as a resource, providing outreach to prospective students throughout the recruitment process.  Contacting students through various means will be the primary focus of this outreach. The fellow will also serve as the student coordinator for various Admissions events geared towards diversifying our student population.  Working with a professional staff member in the Admissions office, he/she will also further develop the African-American Male Leadership Weekend.  This program brings select young black males in their junior year of high school to our campus for leadership training and exposure to higher education.   The fellow will be responsible for generating participation within the campus community along with the logistics of the weekend.

Student Qualifications:

The fellow must have strong interpersonal skills possessing the ability to interact in a group or one-on-one setting.  Amongst our office’s progressive organizational structure, the candidate will learn to work effectively independently and within a team.  It is imperative that the person understands the mission of St. Mary’s College and how the campus aims to further that mission. Strong organizational skills are also necessary since the fellow will be responsible for a multitude of critical tasks.
