Student Responsibilities/Benefits:
The CDC Marketing/Program
Assistant will help in three main areas
MARKETING OF CAREER-RELATED PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND RESOURCES
-Develop an
incentive/promotion plan for a Facebook “Fan Drive”
-Promote CDC programs,
resources and services on CDC Facebook site and CDC website
-Evaluate career-related
opportunities and articles for inclusion on the Facebook site
-Assist with development of
outreach and additional promotional ideas for CDC programs
ASSISTING WITH THE PLANNING OF MAJOR EVENTS
-Help with updating,
proofing, printing, and assembly of materials for Bookbag to Briefcase program
-Develop, recruit for, and
promote a series of alumni career panels
-Coordinate and promote
campus visits from partners such as The Washington Center
-Conduct focus groups or
surveys to assess student need for new programming
-Revise and circulate
promotional emails and flyers
COLLABORATING WITH THE CDC TO OFFER PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS FOR OTHER PFPS.
-Build expertise on student
employment and related issues through reading, interviews, and other research
-Develop a series of
workshops to support the professional development of PFPs and to address common
employment issues (e.g., “Making a Great First Impression,” “Professional
Behavior and Communication”).
-Consider ways to promote the
PFP program, such a “PFP of the Month” profile
-Propose ways of creating community
around the PFP program, such as discussion groups or newsletters
The MPA will have the opportunity to develop desirable skills in each of the following areas, all of which will increase future employability and professional success:
-Written communication:
Create concise, practical, attractive publications for a broad audience;
summarize survey and feedback data; maintain correspondence with guest speakers
and alumni panelists
-Interpersonal/Oral
Communication: Develop confidence and skill in public speaking through
professional correspondence and delivery of workshop content
-Research, Analysis,
Problem-Solving, Creativity: Determine the needs of current students and the
best ways to reach them; Learn about best practices in student employment/training
and develop resources/workshops
-Leadership: Serve as a
professional model for other students and as a liaison between CDC staff and
other PFPs
-Information
Literacy/Technology: Learn best ways to use Web 2.0 technology in the service
of program goals; identify sources of relevant information and evaluate for
suitability for SMCM population; learn to update webpages in a content
management system
-Organizational Ability:
Manage multiple roles and projects in various states of completion; coordinate the
various details necessary for events; hone organizational skills and attention
to detail through record keeping
Student Qualifications:
Successful candidates will
possess most or all of the following (please address in your cover letter):
-Effective oral and written
communication skills; confidence in oral presentation settings|
-Professional/mature demeanor
and an enthusiastic attitude; knowledge of SMCM student population
-Reliability, organizational
skills, and attention to detail; ability to work well independently
-Proficiency with social
media and MS Office software; willingness to learn other technologies
-Interest in working in
career services, student affairs, human resources, employment services,
training, education, counseling, etc.
-Ability to commit to a full
year on campus (Juniors interested in a two-year commitment especially
desirable; early return to campus in January is also desirable)
