Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Sachs

Sarah received her BA in Studio Art from St. Mary's College of Maryland in 2006. In 2008, she received her Masters of Art in Digital Art from Maryland Institute College of Art, and in 2009 she received her Masters of Fine Art in Photography and Digital Imaging, also from Maryland Institute College of Art. Through her fine art work, Sarah explores the dichotomy between human and digital memory, how the two influence one another, and how they are affected by natural and technological elements of decay. She hopes to create a dialogue about the relationships between personal memory, society’s collective memory, and collective cultural identity.

Art Student Resources > Off-Campus Study

St. Mary’s College is your home base but there is a big wide world out there with endless opportunities to further your education beyond the walls of SMCM.

Study abroad can be accomplished in 3 primary ways: as a short term SMCM study tour during summer, winter or spring breaks, though a semester-long SMCM signature program, and through many excellent non-SMCM international programs.

There are also a number of ways you can extend your art education beyond St. Mary’s within the US. You can do course work at another university or art school and transfer back the credits to St. Mary’s. This could be done either as a fulltime semester or by taking one or two classes during the summer. There are also fabulous summer workshop programs mostly focusing in studio art areas that are excellent ways to gain advanced skills and work with other professional and student artists. The following sites all offer classes in English (links open in new windows):
