Welcome back to campus and to Spring 2014!

Remember, flu season continues through May so be aware of healthy prevention practices:

Fight the Flu/Conquer the Cold!

  • Cough/sneeze etiquette
  • Frequent hand-washing!
  • Aim for 8 hours of sleep
  • Snack on fruits/veggies often; lots of water
  • Protect your skin- use moisturizer and lip balm

Still time to get a flu shot from local pharmacies, Target, Walmart, etc.

Remember spring showers bring May flowers!! These "May flowers" bring watery eyes, red noses, sore throats and sneezes.  Allergy meds and allergy hygiene practices can help.

 Nurses’ Notes:

Another semester is upon us and it soon brings changing weather.  For the SMCM community that means winter colds and flu will be replaced or added to by the spring allergens.  Besides the beautiful leafing out of foliage, spring brings high pollen levels, tree allergens and later emerging grasses and flowers.  New students who may have never had allergy issues may find themselves with cold like symptoms-runny or stuffed up nose, headaches, congestion, sore throat and cough.  These are not usually accompanied by a fever or body aches but they can make you miserable.  Health Services can offer suggestions and symptom managing medications to help you deal with these irritating symptoms.  Please call to see a nurse or one of our providers who will answer questions, assess your condition and offer proper treatment for these and any other health concerns you may be experiencing.  We're here to help!

Check in procedure: We’re trying to protect your privacy when requesting appointments. You’ll be asked to fill out a brief form to help us know what you need from us. This will minimize the amount of info you’ll need to share at the window when checking in. Please let us know what you think!
